Shape-shifting touchscreen

I wonder how far away this is from becoming consumer reality (widely available at a realistic price).

It’s a touchscreen that can actually provide the feel of texture based on what’s being shown on the screen.

Imagine a virtual keyboard that comes into view only when you tap on a textbox. The keyboard would actually feel like a keyboard – you could tell, by touch, where the edge of each key was.

Life’s like that

IM conversation from a friend

he asked me
"Daddy what did you  want to be when you were 6 six years old and you grew up?"
I said "a paleontologist"
he said "are you a paleontologist?"
     "what are you then?"
"Uh, I work in a kind of computer company"
     "Why aren’t you a paleontologist?"
"life’s like that"
