Mixed Plate Special

I’m not sure if I’ve ever mentioned that I have a sister. In comments I have, but perhaps not directly in a blog entry. Anyway, I have a sister! She’s three years older than me and lives on the big island of Hawaii, Oahu. She has been / still is a journalist, writer, surfer, café proprietor, spa manager, and apparently people like her very much! (But I haven’t been to Hawaii to verify this for myself – Shane’s fiancée has been there and visited her and they have hit it off and now talk frequently, which I find rather amusing, cause she’s my sister!).

Anyway, I digress.

I am very proud of my sister; she has a very adventurous spirit. And I am jealous at her ability to write! Yes, she is definitely the more creative sibling. Sigh.

She has a new project that you might want to check out. A good example of how a small group of passionate people can quickly come up with something cool and have it available to the world via the internet.

It’s Mixed Plate Special.

It’s an e-zine that has appeal across a variety of areas, and its main mission is this (excerpt):

“At face value, is an artistic, moving chronicle of modern life in Hawai’i. We see the elements of our unique island lifestyle not as distinctions that set Hawai’i apart, but opportunities to invite the world to participate. We’ve heard so many times that Hawai’i can be the model for sustainability, a condition more critical and maybe even more achievable in island communities. And then what?”
