Ah, another useful article from the Straits Times. This time about how to order different types of local coffee!
From the May 20 paper:
“AN ORDER of a skinny, double tall decaf latte means absolutely nothing to your coffee shop uncle, so here’s how to order your coffee – oops, kopi – with gusto at your neighbourhood stall.
BASIC
Kopi-o: Coffee without milk
Kopi: Coffee with condensed milk
Kopi-c: Coffee with evaporated milk
ADD-ONS
Peng: With ice
Po: Weak, made with more water and less coffee
Gao: Strong, made with more coffee and less water
Di lo: All coffee, no water
Ga dai: More sugar
Siu dai: Less sugar
Kosong: No sugar”
