Microsoft happenings

Looks like the boys in Redmond loosened the pursestrings and made the biggest acquisition in Microsoft history… let’s see what else they got up to.

From the Seattle Post-Intelligencer:
How does Bill Gates shape up as a predictor of technology?

Oh! Some reasons on why Microsoft spent 6 BILLION US DOLLARS to buy aQuantive. a-who?
(This one from the more well-known Seattle Times)

For all the developers up there who get a rush of adrenaline booting up Visual Studio similar to the rush of fragging enemies in Doom, here is the latest in Orcas land.

This is the one I find the most interesting – Popfly!  Popfly “gives consumers a visual way to create a Web site or add features, such as mashups, to existing blogs or personal pages.”

Coffee Shop Talk

Ah, another useful article from the Straits Times.  This time about how to order different types of local coffee!

From the May 20 paper:

“AN ORDER of a skinny, double tall decaf latte means absolutely nothing to your coffee shop uncle, so here’s how to order your coffee – oops, kopi – with gusto at your neighbourhood stall.

BASIC

Kopi-o: Coffee without milk

Kopi: Coffee with condensed milk

Kopi-c: Coffee with evaporated milk

ADD-ONS

Peng: With ice

Po: Weak, made with more water and less coffee

Gao: Strong, made with more coffee and less water

Di lo: All coffee, no water

Ga dai: More sugar

Siu dai: Less sugar

Kosong: No sugar”
